Mini Laptops
Many modern RC parts offer fine tuning via a PC connection (e.g. ESCs,
servos, radios, data logger a.s.o.). Some parts even allow a firmware
update in order to achieve more functions. Old-style notebooks do not
have the CPU and battery power or are too heavy and too big and do not
include the latest connection standards (e.g. USB). The use of a
standard laptop is way too expensive - that´s the point where
mini laptops come into play. These mini laptops are extremely versatile
while being lightweight - they can be used at the race track or
at any other location as they will fit into the transport bag easily.
Due to the use of modern CPUs and powerful Li-Ion battery packs the
mini laptops offer a running time of up to several hours without having
to replace or charge the battery. The best part is the price - they are affordable and most of them are in the same price range than a good brushless set. They are the ideal device for data logging, making adjustments and they will also allow an internet connection or will act as a mobile GPS way finder. On bigger races the data for all heats are often available via LAN or WLAN connections - the mini laptops got you covered here too as they all offer a WLAN connection already built-in. Of course the laptops can be used at home for standard PC issues as they are featuring a standard platform with Windows XP already installed. The powerful CPUs enable the deivice to be used as a control unit for small cnc-machines as well. There are three versions to choose from. They mostly differ in size of the display, the CPU power and the HDD size.
